Baguette Ingredients

Method

Baguette Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy. Add the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  3. 3

    Shape the Baguettes

After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal pieces. Shape each piece into a long baguette. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  4. 4

    Second Rise

Cover the shaped baguettes with a clean cloth and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffed.

  5. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Place a shallow pan with water at the bottom of the oven for steam.

  6. 6

    Bake the Baguettes

Make several diagonal slashes on top of each baguette with a sharp knife. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Let cool on a wire rack.
