Method
Bagel Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy. Add the flour and salt, and mix until a dough forms.
- 2
Knead and Rise
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 3
Shape the Bagels
Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then create a hole in the center with your finger. Stretch the hole to form the bagel shape.
- 4
Boil the Bagels
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Boil each bagel for about 1-2 minutes on each side. Remove and place on a baking sheet.

- 6
Bake
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake the bagels for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Let cool before serving.
