Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.

Batter Preparation

  1. 2

    Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Whisk together until well mixed.

  2. 3

    Add Water

Gradually add cold water to the dry ingredients, whisking until the batter is smooth and has no lumps. The batter should be thick enough to coat the onion rings.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off.

  3. 6

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil, a few at a time, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain and Serve

Once fried, remove the onion rings from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
