Calamari
Marinara Sauce
Method
Calamari
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk with the cleaned calamari. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes to tenderize the meat.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika until well combined.
- 3
Coat the Calamari
Remove the calamari from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge the calamari rings in the flour mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated. Shake off any excess flour.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Calamari
Carefully add calamari to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove the calamari and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
