Cocktail
Rum Blend #2 (if mixing your own)
Method
Rum Blend #2 (if making)
- 1
Combine rums
Measure and pour the light rum, aged rum, and overproof rum (if using) into a small mixing glass or bottle. Stir gently to combine. This yields the 2 oz Rum Blend #2 used in the cocktail.
Cocktail assembly
- 2
Fill a double Old-Fashioned glass or a rocks glass with crushed ice, leaving some room at the top.
- 3
In a cocktail shaker, add the 2 oz Rum Blend #2, 1/2 oz Dry Curaçao, 1/2 oz orgeat, and 3/4 oz fresh lime juice.
- 4
Add a small handful of ice to the shaker (not crushed) and shake vigorously for about 10–12 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.
- 5
Double-strain (or fine-strain) the shaken mixture over the prepared glass filled with crushed ice, pouring the cocktail evenly over the ice mound.
- 6
Optional: Gently float 1/4 oz dark rum on top by pouring it over the back of a spoon so it rests on the crushed ice (adds aroma and visual contrast).
- 7
Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim and a fresh mint sprig tucked into the ice. Clap the mint lightly between your palms before placing it to release aromatics.
- 8
Taste. If you prefer it sweeter, stir in up to 1/2 tsp simple syrup and adjust to taste.
- 9
Serve immediately with a straw and enjoy.
