Bolognese Sauce

Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the rigatoni pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Making the Bolognese Sauce

  1. 2

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large skillet or saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are soft.

  2. 3

    Cook the Beef

Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 4

    Add Garlic and Tomatoes

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine. Mix well.

  4. 5

    Season the Sauce

Season with salt, black pepper, dried oregano, and dried basil. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. 6

    Finish the Sauce

Stir in the heavy cream and let the sauce simmer for an additional 5 minutes. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

Serving the Dish

  1. 7

    Combine and Serve

Add the cooked rigatoni to the Bolognese sauce and toss to coat. Serve hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh parsley.
