Sandwich
Method
Sandwich
- 1
Cook bacon
Arrange 4 raw bacon strips in a cold skillet without overlapping. Turn heat to medium and cook, flipping occasionally, until bacon is crisp and browned, about 8–12 minutes depending on thickness. Transfer cooked bacon to a paper-towel-lined plate to drain. Reserve skillet drippings or wipe clean if toasting bread in the same pan.
- 2
Toast bread (optional)
Lightly butter one side of each of the 3 bread slices if desired for flavor. Toast bread slices in a toaster or in the same skillet butter-side-down over medium heat until golden and crisp, about 1–2 minutes per side. Place toasted slices on a cutting board.
- 3
Season tomato
Lay 3 tomato slices on a small plate and sprinkle evenly with 1/4 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp black pepper. This seasons the tomato and prevents a bland sandwich.
- 4
Assemble first layer
Spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on one slice of toasted bread. Top with half the turkey (about 2 oz) evenly across the bread, then place 2 slices of cooked bacon on top of the turkey.
- 5
Assemble second layer
Take the second slice of toasted bread and spread the remaining 1 tablespoon mayonnaise on the top side that will face up. Place this slice mayo-side up onto the first layer (mayo facing up), then on top of that slice add the remaining turkey (2 oz) and all of the ham (3 oz) evenly. Add the 2 slices of provolone cheese over the meat.
- 6
Top with vegetables
On top of the cheese add the seasoned tomato slices (3 slices) and the 2 lettuce leaves. If you prefer the lettuce crisp, pat dry before adding to avoid sogginess.
- 7
Finish sandwich
Top the stack with the third slice of toasted bread, buttered side if used facing up. Press down gently to compact the sandwich. If desired, insert toothpicks through sandwich to hold layers.
- 8
Serve
Using a sharp knife, cut the sandwich into halves or quarters (club-style diagonal cut is common). Serve immediately while bacon is warm and bread is crisp. Optionally serve with pickles, chips, or fries.
