Snarflettes
Method
Snarflettes
- 1
Prepare ingredients
Gather all ingredients and bring peanut butter to room temperature if it is refrigerated; this makes it easier to spread. If using a banana, peel and slice it into 1/4-inch rounds. If using natural peanut butter and you prefer slightly salted flavor, stir in 1/4 teaspoon salt into the peanut butter.

Assemble sandwiches
Lay out the 4 slices of bread on a clean surface. Spread approximately 2 tablespoons (about 1/8 cup) of peanut butter evenly over one side of two slices of bread. Spread about 1 1/2 tablespoons (roughly 0.08 cup) of jam evenly over one side of the remaining two slices. If adding banana, arrange slices on top of the peanut butter on one of the peanut-buttered slices. Press a jam-topped slice onto each peanut-buttered slice, jam side down, to make two sandwiches. Gently press so fillings meet the bread edges but avoid squeezing out the filling.

Optional: Grilling (Pan-fried Snarflettes)
Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Spread about 1 teaspoon of butter (use part of the 2 tablespoons) on the outer face of each sandwich; alternatively, melt the total butter in the pan and brush bread. Place sandwiches butter-side-down in the skillet. Cook 2–3 minutes until golden brown and crisp, then flip carefully and cook the other side 2–3 minutes until golden and the filling is warm. Reduce heat if the bread browns too quickly before the interior warms. Remove from pan and transfer to a cutting board.

Finish and serve
If desired, dust lightly with 1 teaspoon powdered sugar for a touch of sweetness and presentation. Cut sandwiches in half on the diagonal to make four Snarflette halves and plate. Serve immediately while warm (if grilled) or at room temperature.
