Syrup & Soda

Glass & Garnish

Method

Prepare Glass

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a highball glass or tall chilled glass in the freezer for 10–15 minutes or fill with ice water while you gather ingredients so it’s very cold when you pour.

  2. 2

If not prechilled, cool the glass quickly by filling it with ice cubes and letting it sit while you prepare other components.

Serve Mexican Coke

  1. 3

    Add ice

Discard any ice water from the glass. Fill the chilled glass with 4–6 large ice cubes, leaving about 1–1.5 inches (2.5–4 cm) of headspace at the top.

  2. 4

    Pour bottle

Open a cold bottle of Mexican Coca‑Cola (the cane‑sugar version, typically sold in glass bottles). Slowly pour the Coke down the side of the glass to preserve carbonation and reduce foaming, stopping when the liquid is about 1 cm from the rim.

  3. 5

    Optional stretch

If you prefer a slightly lighter drink or want to share a bottle between two smaller glasses, top with 60 ml club soda or sparkling water. Gently stir once with a long spoon to combine—do not overmix, to preserve bubbles.

  4. 6

    Garnish and finish

Rub the lime wedge around the rim of the glass and then drop it in (or squeeze a little juice into the drink if desired). Optionally slap the mint sprig between your palms to release aroma and tuck it beside the ice. Serve immediately with a straw or swizzle spoon.
