Fried Okra Ingredients
Method
Fried Okra Directions
Prepare the Okra
Wash the okra thoroughly under running water. Trim off the tops and tails, then slice them into 1/2-inch rounds.
Set Up the Breading Station
In a bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well. In another bowl, pour the buttermilk.
Bread the Okra
Dip each okra slice into the buttermilk, allowing any excess to drip off. Then, coat the okra in the cornmeal mixture, ensuring they are well covered.
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
Fry the Okra
Carefully add the breaded okra slices in batches to the hot oil. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally.
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried okra from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot as a snack or side dish.
