Cold Brew Concentrate

Method

Cold Brew Concentrate

  1. 1

    Combine coffee and water

In a clean jar or pitcher, add 1 cup coarsely ground coffee. Pour 4 cups cold filtered water over the grounds, ensuring all grounds are saturated. Stir gently to make sure there are no dry pockets.

  2. 2

    Steep

Cover the jar or pitcher with a lid or plastic wrap. Let the coffee steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 12 to 18 hours. Longer steeping (up to 18 hours) yields a stronger, fuller concentrate.

  3. 3

    Filter the concentrate

After steeping, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve lined with a coffee filter, cheesecloth, or a nut milk bag into a clean container. Press or squeeze gently to extract liquid, then discard the used grounds. You should have about 3 to 3.5 cups of cold brew concentrate.

  4. 4

    Optional dilution

Taste the concentrate. If it’s too strong for your preference, dilute with up to 1/2 cup filtered water, mixing well. Chill the concentrate until cold (if not already refrigerated).

Nitro Infusion & Serving

  1. 5

    Prepare serving vessel

If serving over ice, fill a glass with 1 cup ice. Nitro cold brew is traditionally served without ice to preserve the cascading effect and crema, so you may use an empty chilled glass for the classic experience.

  2. 6

    Load nitro system

If using a countertop nitro pitcher or a whipped-cream style dispenser: pour 1 cup of cold brew concentrate into the nitro vessel (do not overfill; leave headspace). Secure the lid and charge with one nitrogen cartridge according to the manufacturer's instructions. Shake firmly 10–20 times to incorporate nitrogen. If using a commercial keg nitro system, ensure the keg is properly chilled and connected to a nitrogen regulator set to the correct pressure (typically 30–40 psi) and dispense as instructed.

  3. 7

    Dispense

Hold your glass at a slight angle and slowly dispense the nitro cold brew. Aim to create a cascading, foamy head; the top will develop a thick, velvety crema. If using ice, pour slowly over the ice to minimize splashing.

  4. 8

    Add optional add-ins

If desired, stir in 1–2 tsp simple syrup or 1 tsp vanilla syrup for sweetness. For a creamier texture, add 1–2 tbsp whole milk or oat milk and gently swirl — avoid vigorous stirring to preserve the nitrogen crema.

  5. 9

    Serve

Serve immediately. Nitro cold brew is best consumed within 20–30 minutes of dispensing to enjoy the crema and texture.
