Smoothie Base
Optional Boosters & Garnish
Method
Smoothie Base
- 1
Measure and add 1.5 cups of frozen mixed berries to the blender. Using mostly frozen fruit gives the smoothie a thick, cold texture.
- 2
Peel the banana and break it into chunks; add to the blender with the berries. The banana adds natural sweetness and creaminess.
- 3
- 4
Add 1 scoop vanilla protein powder and 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt to the blender. These provide the primary protein and create a creamy mouthfeel.
- 5
Add 1 tablespoon ground chia seeds and 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup. Chia adds fiber and a slight thickness; sweetener is optional depending on your protein powder and fruit sweetness.
- 6
Secure the blender lid and blend on high for 30–60 seconds, stopping to scrape down the sides with a spatula if needed. Blend until smooth and no large chunks remain.
Optional Boosters & Garnish
- 7
Add boosters (optional)
If using spinach, add 1 cup fresh spinach to the blender before blending. It will incorporate easily and not alter the berry flavor much. If using rolled oats or nut butter, add 2 tablespoons oats or 1 tablespoon nut butter now and blend until smooth.
- 8
Adjust texture
For a thicker, colder smoothie, add 4 ice cubes and blend an additional 15–30 seconds. For a thinner smoothie, add 2–4 tablespoons more almond milk and pulse to combine.
- 9
Serve & garnish
Pour the smoothie into a large glass (or two small glasses). Top with 2 tablespoons fresh berries and a sprinkle of 1 teaspoon hemp seeds if desired.
- 10
Taste & final adjustments
Taste the smoothie and add more sweetener (up to 1 teaspoon extra) if desired, or an extra splash of milk to change texture. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.
