Prepare the Oysters
Rinse the oysters under cold water and gently scrub the shells. Pat them dry with paper towels.

Make the Breading
In a shallow bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, beat the eggs and mix with buttermilk.

Heat the Oil
In a large, deep skillet or fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Fry the Oysters
Carefully add the coated oysters in batches to the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
