Fried Oysters

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Oysters

Rinse the oysters under cold water and gently scrub the shells. Pat them dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Make the Breading

In a shallow bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, beat the eggs and mix with buttermilk.

  3. 3

    Coat the Oysters

Dip each oyster first into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge in the cornmeal mixture, ensuring they are well-coated.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Oysters

Carefully add the coated oysters in batches to the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
