Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the russet potatoes and shred them using a box grater or a food processor. Place the shredded potatoes in a bowl of cold water to remove excess starch.

  2. 2

    Drain and Dry

After soaking for about 10 minutes, drain the potatoes and squeeze out as much moisture as possible using a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.

  3. 3

    Mix in Onion and Seasoning

Finely chop the onion and add it to the dried potatoes. Season with salt and black pepper, mixing well to combine.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.

  5. 5

    Cook the Hash Browns

Add the potato mixture in an even layer in the skillet. Press down gently with a spatula. Cook for about 5-7 minutes or until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

    Flip and Finish Cooking

Carefully flip the hash brown using a large spatula, adding butter to the pan if desired. Cook the other side for another 5-7 minutes until golden and crispy.

  7. 7

    Serve

Remove the hash browns from the skillet and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite toppings.
