Garnish & Glass Prep
Method
Cocktail
- 1
Combine ingredients
Add blanco tequila (2 oz), chipotle liqueur (0.75 oz), mezcal (0.5 oz), apple cider (1 oz), fresh lemon juice (0.75 oz) and simple syrup (0.5 oz) into a cocktail shaker.
- 2
Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the shaker is chilled and slightly frosted. This chills and dilutes to balance the cocktail.
- 3
Strain
Double-strain the mixture (use a Hawthorne and a fine mesh strainer if available) into a chilled rocks glass filled with fresh ice, or into a chilled coupe if you prefer it up.
- 4
Optional chipotle float
For a smoky-spicy accent, lightly muddle or smash a small bit (1/4 piece) of chipotle pepper (dried or a tiny piece from adobo) and float it on top, or add a few drops of the chipotle liqueur on the surface to create a visible float.
Garnish & Glass Prep
- 5
Prepare rim
On a small plate, mix coarse salt (1 tsp) with smoked paprika (0.25 tsp). Moisten the rim of the serving glass with a lemon wedge, then dip the rim into the salt-paprika mixture to coat evenly.
- 6
Garnish
Garnish the cocktail with a lemon wheel or a thin apple slice on the rim. If you used the optional chipotle pepper, position the small piece near the garnish for presentation. Serve immediately.
