Method
Preparing the Oatmeal
- 1
Cook the Steel-Cut Oats
In a medium-sized pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add 1 cup of steel-cut oats and stir. Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally until the oats are tender.
- 2
Add Flax Seeds
Once the oats are cooked, stir in 2 tablespoons of flax seeds. Continue to cook for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the flax seeds to absorb some moisture and soften.
Preparing the Fruits
- 3
Chop the Apple
While the oats are cooking, core and chop 1 medium apple into small cubes. Set aside.
- 4
Measure the Raisins and Berries
Measure out 1 cup of raisins and 1 cup of mixed berries (fresh or frozen). If using frozen berries, there's no need to thaw them.
Serving the Oatmeal
- 5
Combine Ingredients
Once the oatmeal is ready, stir in the chopped apples, raisins, and mixed berries. Mix well to evenly distribute the fruits throughout the oatmeal.
