Caramel

Flan Mixture

Method

Caramel Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Caramel

In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and turns into a golden brown caramel. Be careful not to burn it.

  2. 2

    Coat the Pan

Quickly pour the caramel into a round flan mold or individual ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.

Flan Mixture Preparation

  1. 3

    Blend the Ingredients

In a blender, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Blend until smooth and well combined.

  2. 4

    Pour the Mixture

Carefully pour the flan mixture over the cooled caramel in the flan mold or ramekins.

Baking

  1. 5

    Prepare the Water Bath

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the flan mold or ramekins in a larger baking dish. Fill the larger dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan mold or ramekins.

  2. 6

    Bake the Flan

Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.

  3. 7

    Cool and Chill

Remove the flan from the oven and let it cool in the water bath for 15 minutes. Then, refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to set completely.

Serving

  1. 8

    Unmold and Serve

To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it. Invert it onto a plate to release the caramel. Slice and enjoy!
