Prepare workspace

Clear a flat, clean work surface and lay down a protective sheet or craft mat to protect the table from glue and sealer.

Create template

Use the cardstock to cut or draw the template for the paper product you want to make (for example a bag, folder, envelope, or poster backing). Mark dimensions with a ruler and pencil. Typical bag template: 12 x 8 inches for main panel with 2-inch side/ bottom flaps.

Cut paper sheets

Place the template on the kraft paper and trace around it. Cut 2–4 panels per item depending on desired thickness (8 sheets available allow layering). Use scissors or a craft knife and a straight edge for clean lines.

Layer and glue

Apply a thin, even coat of PVA glue to one side of the first kraft paper panel using a paintbrush or foam brush. Align the next panel on top and press firmly, smoothing out any air pockets or wrinkles. Repeat until you have 2–4 layers for the desired stiffness. Wipe excess glue with a damp cloth.

Clamp or weight

Place wax paper between the glued stack and heavy books or clamps. Let the glued stack dry under weight for at least 30–45 minutes, or until tack-free (longer if humid).

Seal surface

Once dry, apply a thin coat of acrylic matte sealer or varnish to both sides with a brush to add moisture resistance and durability. Allow to dry 20–30 minutes and apply a second thin coat if needed. Let cure fully per product instructions (often 24 hours).

Trim and sand edges

Trim any uneven edges with a craft knife and use fine-grit sandpaper to smooth corners and edges for a professional finish. Remove dust with a soft cloth.

Add tape and labels

Reinforce stress points (bag handles, folder folds, envelope flaps) with paper tape or reinforcement labels. Apply tape to interior seams or folding lines, pressing firmly to adhere.

Attach handles or closures

If making a bag or folder, cut two lengths of twine for handles. Punch or carefully cut small holes where handles will attach, thread the twine, and knot or secure with a dab of clear-drying craft glue on the underside. Allow glue to dry.

Decorate (optional)

Use stamps, ink, paint, or markers to decorate the surface. If adding wet media, allow decorations to dry completely before applying a final protective sealer coat.

Keep scissors, ruler, brush, and knife handy throughout the process. Use the ruler and straight edge for precise cuts and the brush for even glue/sealer application. Fine-tune appearance with sandpaper after sealing if needed.
