Portobello Fries
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Mushrooms
Clean the Portobello mushrooms with a damp cloth and remove the stems. Slice each mushroom into thick strips.
- 2
Set Up Breading Station
In three shallow bowls, set up the following: one with flour mixed with salt and pepper, one with beaten eggs, and one with panko breadcrumbs.
- 3
Bread the Mushrooms
Dredge each mushroom strip in the flour, shaking off excess, then dip in the egg, and finally coat in panko breadcrumbs. Press the breadcrumbs onto the mushrooms to ensure they stick.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Mushrooms
Carefully place the breaded mushroom strips in the hot oil in batches. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve
Serve hot with horseradish dipping sauce on the side.
