Prepare the Marinara Sauce
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Add Tomatoes and Season
Stir in crushed tomatoes, chopped basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer the sauce on low heat for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Make the Meatballs
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Season with salt and pepper. Mix well and form into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

Combine Meatballs and Sauce
Once the meatballs are cooked, transfer them to the marinara sauce and simmer together for an additional 10-15 minutes.

Cook the Pasta
Meanwhile, cook the spaghetti or pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Serve the pasta topped with marinara sauce and meatballs. Sprinkle with remaining Parmesan cheese and fresh basil if desired.
