Ingredients for Marinara with Meatballs

Method

Directions for Marinara with Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatballs

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Italian sausage, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, salt, pepper, oregano, and basil. Mix until just combined. Form the mixture into 12-16 meatballs.

  2. 2

    Cook the Meatballs

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.

  3. 3

    Make the Marinara Sauce

In the same skillet, add chopped onion and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Add crushed tomatoes, sugar, and additional basil and oregano. Simmer for 10 minutes.

  4. 4

    Combine Meatballs and Sauce

Return the meatballs to the skillet with the marinara sauce. Simmer together for another 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

  5. 5

    Cook the Pasta

While the sauce is simmering, cook the spaghetti or ziti according to package instructions in a large pot of salted boiling water. Drain and set aside.

  6. 6

    Serve the Dish

Serve the cooked pasta topped with marinara sauce and meatballs. Garnish with extra Parmesan cheese if desired.
