Method

Directions

  1. 1

    Prep jalapeños

Rinse the jalapeños under cold water. Pat dry, then slice each pepper in half lengthwise and scoop out seeds and membranes for milder heat (leave some seeds for extra heat if desired).

  2. 2

    Toss with oil and seasonings

In a mixing bowl, toss the jalapeño halves with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.

  3. 3

    Preheat heat source

Preheat a grill or broiler to high heat (about 450-500°F / 230-260°C). If using a grill, oil the grill grates lightly to prevent sticking.

  4. 4

    Char the jalapeños

Place the seasoned jalapeño halves on the grill, cut side down. Cook until the skins blister and char, about 3-5 minutes; flip and cook another 2-4 minutes until tender.

  5. 5

    Finish with lime

Remove from heat and drizzle lime juice over the peppers, tossing gently to distribute.

  6. 6

    Garnish with cilantro

Sprinkle chopped cilantro over the peppers for fresh color and aroma.

  7. 7

    Plate and serve

Transfer the charred jalapeños to a serving dish. Arrange lime wedges on the side for squeezing to taste.

  8. 8

    Serving notes

These jalapeños are best served warm as a zesty side dish to grilled meats or tacos.
