Race Fuel Smoothie (main beverage)
Energy Bite Topping (optional garnish)
Post-Race Recovery Shot (optional)
Method
Race Fuel Smoothie (main beverage)
- 1
Prep
Peel the banana and break it into large chunks so it blends evenly. Measure out the oats, yogurt, almond milk, peanut butter, honey/maple, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
- 2
Soak oats (optional for smoother texture)
If you have 5–10 minutes, briefly stir the rolled oats into the almond milk and let them sit while you prep other ingredients; this softens the oats for a silkier smoothie.
- 3
Blend
Add banana, rolled oats (soaked or dry), Greek yogurt, almond milk, peanut butter, honey or maple syrup, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and sea salt to a high-speed blender. Add the ice cubes on top. Secure lid.
- 4
Process
Blend on high for 45–90 seconds, stopping once to scrape down the sides if needed, until the mixture is completely smooth and slightly thick but pourable. If too thick, add up to 0.25 cups more almond milk; if too thin, add another 2 ice cubes or 1–2 tbs oats.
- 5
Taste and adjust
Taste the smoothie and adjust sweetness with an additional 0.5–1 tbs honey/maple if desired, or a pinch more salt to enhance flavors.
- 6
Serve
Pour the smoothie into a large glass or shaker bottle. Sprinkle chia seeds and crushed almonds on top if using. Serve immediately for best texture and coldness.
Energy Bite Topping (optional garnish)
- 7
Combine chia seeds and crushed almonds in a small bowl and lightly sprinkle over the poured smoothie. The topping adds crunch and a few extra calories for endurance without changing the drink’s flow.
Post-Race Recovery Shot (optional)
- 8
Whisk together the orange juice, turmeric powder, and a pinch of black pepper in a small glass. Drink immediately after the smoothie or after the race to capitalize on vitamin C and the anti-inflammatory effect of turmeric (black pepper increases turmeric absorption).
