Classic Lime Margarita

Method

Classic Lime Margarita

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or coupe glass. Pour coarse salt onto a small plate, press the rim into the salt to coat evenly. Set glass aside.

  2. 2

    Mix cocktail

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice (about 3/4 full). Add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 1 oz orange liqueur, and 0.5 oz simple syrup. Secure lid.

  3. 3

    Shake and strain

Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is chilled and slightly frosted. Strain into the prepared glass over fresh ice (or serve neat in a chilled coupe).

  4. 4

    Garnish and serve

Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. Serve immediately.

Frozen Strawberry Margarita (batch for one)

  1. 5

    Prepare fruit

If using fresh strawberries, hull and roughly chop them. If frozen, measure and use frozen for a thicker texture.

  2. 6

    Blend

Add 2 oz blanco tequila, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.75 oz orange liqueur, 0.5 oz agave or simple syrup, 4 oz strawberries, and 1.5 cups ice to a blender. Secure lid.

  3. 7

    Process

Blend on high until smooth and slushy, about 30–60 seconds. Stop and scrape down the sides once if needed and blend again to achieve even consistency. Adjust sweetness with additional agave if desired (up to 0.25 oz).

  4. 8

    Serve

Pour into a chilled glass. Garnish with a lime wedge and, optionally, a fresh strawberry on the rim. Serve with a straw.

Spicy Jalapeño Margarita (single)

  1. 9

    Muddle jalapeño

In a shaker, add 3 jalapeño slices and 0.5 oz agave nectar. Gently muddle 6–8 times to release some heat and oils; avoid pulverizing seeds unless extra heat is desired.

  2. 10

    Combine ingredients

Add 2 oz reposado tequila, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz orange liqueur, and a handful of ice to the shaker.

  3. 11

    Shake and rim glass

Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds. Meanwhile, rim a rocks glass with a lime wedge and dip in a salt + chili powder mix to coat.

  4. 12

    Strain and serve

Double-strain the mixture into the prepared glass over fresh ice to remove jalapeño bits (use a fine mesh strainer if available). Garnish with a jalapeño slice or lime wheel. Taste and add extra agave (up to 0.25 oz) if needed to balance heat.
