Milk Tea

Method

Milk Tea

  1. 1

    Brew the tea

In a medium saucepan, bring 3 cups of water to a boil.

  2. 2

Add 6 tablespoons Thai tea leaves to the boiling water. Reduce heat to a gentle simmer and steep for 5–7 minutes to extract a deep amber color and strong flavor.

  3. 3

Strain the tea into a heatproof container, pressing on the leaves to extract as much flavor as possible. Discard the leaves.

  4. 4

Stir in 2 tablespoons granulated sugar while the tea is still warm until dissolved (optional).

  5. 5

Allow the tea to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for 15–20 minutes to chill (or proceed directly over ice).

  6. 6

In a pitcher or directly into two glasses, whisk in 4 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk until fully blended with the tea.

  7. 7

Fill two serving glasses with ice. Pour the chilled tea over the ice, dividing evenly.

  8. 8

Top each glass with 2 tablespoons evaporated milk, stirring gently to create a creamy marbling effect. Serve immediately with a thick straw.
