Method
Stovetop method
- 1
Prepare the pan
Place 8 strips of bacon in a cold skillet in a single layer, ensuring the strips do not overlap. This allows fat to render gradually for even crisping.
- 2
Turn the heat to medium and cook the bacon, turning once halfway through, until evenly browned and crisp, about 8–12 minutes depending on thickness.
- 3
As fat renders, tilt the pan and spoon out excess fat if desired, or carefully pour off excess fat into a heatproof container to reduce greasiness.
- 4
When the bacon is crisp to your liking, transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain for 1–2 minutes before serving.
Oven method (alternative)
- 5
Preheat and line
Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment and place a wire rack on top.
- 6
Arrange bacon strips in a single layer on the rack with space between pieces.
- 7
Bake for 12–15 minutes, then check for desired crispness. For extra crispness, bake an additional 2–3 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
- 8
Remove from oven, transfer bacon to paper towels to drain for 1–2 minutes before serving.
