  1. 1

    Boil pasta

Fill a large pot with water and bring to a rolling boil. Add 0.25 teaspoon salt to the water, then add 2 cups of dry spaghetti. Stir occasionally and cook until al dente (about 8–10 minutes). Reserve 1/2 cup of the pasta water before draining.

  2. 2

    Flavor the oil and garlic

While the pasta cooks, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add 2 minced garlic cloves and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn.

  3. 3

    Simmer the sauce with basil

Stir 2 cups of marinara sauce into the skillet with the garlic. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 5–7 minutes. Add 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil and stir to combine.

  4. 4

    Combine pasta and sauce

Drain the cooked spaghetti and add it to the sauce. If the sauce is too thick, splash in a little of the reserved pasta water until you reach the desired consistency. Toss to coat the pasta well.

  5. 5

    Serve with parmesan

Divide the pasta among bowls, sprinkle 0.25 cup grated Parmesan cheese on top, and garnish with a bit more basil if desired. Serve warm.
