Aguas Frescas - Agua de Jamaica (Hibiscus)
Method
Aguas Frescas - Agua de Jamaica (Hibiscus)
- 1
Rinse 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers under cool water. In a large pot, combine hibiscus with 4 cups hot water. Bring to a gentle simmer, then remove from heat and cover. Let the mixture steep for 15 minutes.
- 2
Strain the hibiscus infusion into a large pitcher, pressing on the solids with a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids.
- 3
Stir in 0.5 cups granulated sugar until fully dissolved.
- 4
Add 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice and 4 cups cold water to the hibiscus infusion. Stir well to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness or acidity as desired.
- 5
Chill the hibiscus mixture in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes, or serve immediately over ice if preferred.
- 6
To serve, fill each glass with ice cubes. Pour the hibiscus agua fresca over the ice and garnish with lime wedges.
