Method
Cooking the Spaghetti
- 1
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil over high heat.
- 2
Add Spaghetti
Once the water is boiling, add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente.
- 3
Drain Spaghetti
Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.
Making the Red Sauce
- 4
Sauté Onion and Garlic
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
- 5
Add Crushed Tomatoes
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- 6
Simmer Sauce
Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Combining Everything
- 7
Combine Spaghetti and Sauce
Once the sauce has thickened to your liking, add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with the sauce. Toss to combine until the spaghetti is evenly coated.
- 8
Serve
Serve the spaghetti hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese to taste.
