Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Begin by peeling the Russet potatoes. Once peeled, cut them into thin strips (about 1/4 inch thick) to form fries. Try to keep them as uniform in size as possible for even cooking.

  2. 2

    Soak the Fries

Place the cut potato strips in a large bowl of cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This step helps to remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large heavy-bottomed pot or a deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil reaches the right temperature.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels. Removing excess moisture is key to achieving crispy fries.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of the dried potato strips into the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot. Fry in batches for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fries and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

  4. 6

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with the salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Toss gently to ensure an even coating of seasoning.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve

Serve the fries immediately while they are hot and crispy. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauces.
