Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans with butter or cooking spray.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, which is normal.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 8

    Make the Frosting

In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, and mix until smooth and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  2. 9

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes have completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

Serving Directions

  1. 10

    Serve with Ice Cream

Slice the cake and serve each piece with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
