Crispy Chicken Ingredients
Method
Preparation Directions
- 1
Marinate the Chicken
In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Add the chicken breasts, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- 2
Prepare the Candied Bacon
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the bacon on a lined baking sheet and sprinkle brown sugar over each slice. Bake for 15-20 minutes until crispy and caramelized. Remove and let cool, then chop into pieces.
- 3
Make the Alabama Sweet Slaw
In a large bowl, combine the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, honey, and hot sauce. Add the shredded cabbage and grated carrot, mixing well to coat. Refrigerate until serving.
- 4
Prepare the Chicken Coating
In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- 5
Fry the Chicken
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting excess buttermilk drip off. Dredge each breast in the flour mixture until fully coated. Fry the chicken in batches for about 6-8 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve
Plate the crispy chicken and top with candied bacon and a generous portion of Alabama sweet slaw. Drizzle with additional hot sauce if desired.
