Method
Preparation of Brussels Sprouts
- 1
Trim and Halve Brussels Sprouts
Begin by trimming the ends of the Brussels sprouts and removing any yellow or damaged leaves. Cut each Brussels sprout in half lengthwise.
- 2
Season Brussels Sprouts
In a large mixing bowl, combine the halved Brussels sprouts with olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Toss thoroughly to ensure each piece is evenly coated.
Making the Bourbon Glaze
- 3
Combine Ingredients for Glaze
In a small saucepan, combine the bourbon, brown sugar, soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes. Stir well to dissolve the brown sugar.
- 4
Cook the Glaze
Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer. Allow it to cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the glaze thickens slightly.
Cooking Brussels Sprouts
- 5
Fry the Brussels Sprouts
In a large skillet, heat a little olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned Brussels sprouts, cut side down, and cook for about 5-7 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Toss in the Glaze
Once the Brussels sprouts are cooked, pour the bourbon glaze over them in the skillet. Toss gently to coat the Brussels sprouts evenly with the glaze and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the glaze to caramelize slightly.
