Preparation

  1. 1

    Bring Steak to Room Temperature

Remove the ribeye steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking. This helps it cook more evenly.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Pat the ribeye steak dry with paper towels. In a small bowl, mix together salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Rub the seasoning mixture evenly over both sides of the steak.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Preheat the Pan

Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottom pan over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes, until it's hot.

  2. 4

    Add Olive Oil

Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the hot skillet, swirling it to coat the bottom of the pan.

  3. 5

    Cook the Steak

Carefully place the seasoned ribeye steak in the skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on the first side without moving it, until a nice crust forms.

  4. 6

    Flip the Steak

Using tongs, flip the steak to the other side and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, adjusting the time as needed for your desired doneness.

  5. 7

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked to your liking, remove the ribeye from the skillet and let it rest on a cutting board for about 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.

  6. 8

    Serve

Slice the ribeye against the grain and serve immediately. Enjoy your ribeye a la carte!
