Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne or linguini and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Make the Marinara Sauce

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir in canned tomatoes, oregano, salt, basil, and black pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Butter Sauce Preparation

  1. 3

    Make the Butter Sauce

In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute. Stir in chopped parsley and cook for another minute. Remove from heat.

Meatball Preparation (optional)

  1. 4

    Prepare the Meatballs

In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning. Mix thoroughly and shape into 1-inch meatballs. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Place meatballs on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until cooked through.

Combine and Serve

  1. 5

    Combine and Serve

Toss the cooked pasta with the marinara sauce or butter sauce as desired. If using meatballs, add them on top. Serve with a choice of apple sauce, fries, steamed broccoli, or side salad. Enjoy with a soft drink and a scoop of ice cream.
