Method

Cake Layers

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour four 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix on medium speed until well combined.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cakes

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Fudgy Chocolate Frosting

  1. 7

    Prepare the Frosting

In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the heavy cream.

  2. 8

    Mix Until Smooth

Beat on medium speed until the frosting is smooth and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and mix to combine.

Assembly and Serving

  1. 9

    Assemble the Cake

Place one layer of cake on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top. Repeat this process for the remaining layers.

  2. 10

    Frost the Outside

Once all layers are stacked, use the remaining frosting to cover the top and sides of the cake.

  3. 11

    Prepare to Serve

Slice the cake into pieces and serve each slice with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream, a drizzle of chocolate syrup, fresh strawberries, and a mint leaf on top.
