Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). This ensures that the cakes will bake evenly.

Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth. Allow to cool slightly.

Combine Dry Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

Mix Wet Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs and vanilla extract until well combined. Gradually pour in the melted chocolate and butter mixture, stirring continuously.

Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix.
Baking

Fill Ramekins
Evenly distribute the batter among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are set but the center is still soft.

Remove the ramekins from the oven and let them cool for 1 minute before inverting them onto plates.
Serving

Sprinkle powdered sugar over the top of each lava cake.

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
