Cake Ingredients

Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the cake.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture. Mix until just combined.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. Note that the batter will be thin.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter into two greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cake

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Prepare the Frosting

While the cake is cooling, in a medium mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy and smooth.

  2. 8

    Add Cocoa Powder

Add the cocoa powder to the butter and mix until fully combined.

  3. 9

    Incorporate Sugar and Milk

Gradually add the powdered sugar and whole milk, mixing until well blended. Then add the vanilla extract and beat until the frosting is light and fluffy.

  4. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a generous amount of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
