Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until bubbly.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour mixture. Stir until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    Let it Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Assembly

  1. 6

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. 7

    Roll Out the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it onto a floured surface. Roll it out into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.

  3. 8

    Add Toppings

Spread shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the dough, leaving a border around the edges. Add your chosen toppings (up to 4) evenly on top of the cheese.

  4. 9

    Season

Sprinkle Italian seasoning and garlic powder over the toppings.

  5. 10

    Roll and Seal

Starting from one long side, carefully roll the dough over the toppings into a tight log. Pinch the seams to seal.

  6. 11

    Prepare for Baking

Place the rolled stromboli seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cut a few slits on top to allow steam to escape.

  7. 12

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.

  8. 13

    Cool and Serve

Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping if desired.
