Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F or 45°C), active dry yeast, and granulated sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Mix thoroughly.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the dry ingredients along with olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Baking

  1. 6

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. 7

    Shape Breadsticks

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick, then cut into strips (about 1 inch wide).

  3. 8

    Prepare Baking Sheet

Place the strips onto a greased baking sheet, leaving some space in between each breadstick.

  4. 9

    Second Rise

Cover the breadsticks with a cloth and let them rise for another 20-30 minutes.

  5. 10

    Prepare Topping

In a small bowl, mix together olive oil, garlic powder, Parmesan cheese, dried oregano, and salt to taste.

  6. 11

    Brush Topping

After the second rise, brush the topping mixture over each breadstick generously.

  7. 12

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

  8. 13

    Cool and Serve

Once baked, remove from the oven and let the breadsticks cool slightly before serving.
