Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

1

Prepare and chill glass

If desired, chill a coupe or martini glass by filling it with ice water and setting aside while you build the cocktail. Alternatively, place the glass in the freezer for a few minutes.

2

Measure and combine

Pour 2 oz Tanqueray gin, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup into a cocktail shaker.

3

Add ice and shake

Add 6 ice cubes to the shaker. Seal and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch and the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted.

4

Prepare glass

Discard ice water from the chilled glass (if used) and dry the rim. If you prefer a very cold rim, strain the cocktail into the glass immediately after shaking.

5

Strain

Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine-mesh strainer (or a julep strainer) to remove ice shards and pulp.

Garnish & Serve

6

Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim or express a lime (or lemon) peel over the drink to release oils, then drop the peel into the glass. Serve immediately.
