Base Avocados

Spicy Smash

Serving & Accompaniments

Method

Base Avocados

1

Prepare avocados

Halve and pit the avocados. Scoop the flesh into a large bowl for mash-style serving, and reserve the shells (halved skins) on a platter if you want guests to build in shells. Add the lime juice, salt, and black pepper to the avocado flesh and mash with a fork to desired texture (chunky or smooth). Taste and adjust seasoning.

2

Portion

Transfer mashed avocado into a shallow serving bowl or distribute into avocado shells for an attractive display. Keep covered with plastic wrap pressed onto the surface to minimize browning if not serving immediately.

Guacamole (classic)

3

Fold the diced onion, cilantro, tomato, and minced jalapeño into one portion (about half) of the mashed avocado prepared above to create classic guacamole. Adjust salt and lime to taste. Place in a small serving bowl and garnish with a cilantro sprig.

Spicy Smash

4

Take another portion of the mashed avocado (about 1/3 of the total) and mix in crushed red pepper flakes, hot sauce, and smoked paprika. Stir until evenly combined. Transfer to a small bowl and label as the Spicy Smash.

Mediterranean Twist

5

Mix crumbled feta, chopped kalamata olives, chopped mint, and olive oil into a third portion of the mashed avocado. Fold gently so feta remains slightly chunky. Taste and add a squeeze of lime if desired. Serve in a small bowl.

Citrus & Herb

6

Combine the citrus segments, chopped basil, and honey. Gently fold this mixture into a small remaining portion of mashed avocado or spoon the citrus-herb mix on top of a plain avocado bed for a bright, contrasting topping. Keep chilled until serving.

Protein Toppings

7

Arrange cooked shrimp, flaked smoked salmon, and crumbled bacon each in their own small bowls. If using shrimp, toss with a little lime and salt. For smoked salmon, add a pinch of cracked pepper. These are optional add-ons guests can place on top of any avocado base.

Crunch & Garnishes

8

Place toasted pepitas, pickled red onion, microgreens or arugula, and sliced radishes into separate small bowls. These provide texture and brightness — instruct guests to add sparingly so avocado remains the star. Lay out extra lime wedges alongside.

Serving & Accompaniments

9

Set up the avocado bar on a long table: place the base mashed avocado and the variant bowls (classic guac, spicy smash, Mediterranean, citrus) with protein bowls, crunch bowls, and garnishes nearby. Put tortilla chips or crostini in an accessible bowl. Provide spoons, small serving tongs, and plates so guests can assemble their own avocado preparations.

10

Keep replenishing bowls on ice if serving for more than 1 hour to maintain freshness. Leftover mashed avocado can be stored airtight with a thin layer of lime juice and plastic wrap directly on surface in refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
