Margarita Cocktail
Method
Margarita Cocktail
- 1
Prepare the glass
Run the lime wedge around the outer rim of a rocks or coupe glass to moisten it. Spread the coarse salt on a small plate and gently press the moistened rim into the salt to coat about halfway around the glass (or full rim, if you prefer). Set the glass aside.
- 2
Add ingredients to shaker
Fill a cocktail shaker with about 1 cup of ice. Pour in 2 oz tequila, 1 oz orange liqueur, 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup if you prefer a slightly sweeter margarita. Using fresh lime juice is key for bright flavor.
- 3
Shake
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10β15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is very cold and well chilled.
- 4
Strain and serve
Place fresh ice in the prepared glass if you prefer it on the rocks (optional). Double-strain the cocktail into the glass using a Hawthorne and/or fine mesh strainer to catch ice shards. If you used a coupe or prefer neat, strain without ice into the chilled, salted-rim glass.
- 5
Garnish
Garnish with the remaining lime wedge or a thin lime wheel on the rim. Serve immediately.
