Black Tea Base

Milk & Sweetener (optional)

Citrus Variation (optional)

Garnish (optional)

Method

Black Tea Base

  1. 1

    Heat water

Bring 12 oz (about 350 ml) of fresh cold water to a rolling boil (approx. 212°F / 100°C). Use filtered water for the cleanest flavor.

  2. 2

    Steep

Place 2 tsp loose-leaf black tea in a teapot or infuser. Pour the boiling water over the leaves and steep for 3 to 5 minutes depending on desired strength (3 min = lighter, 5 min = robust/strong).

  3. 3

    Strain

When steeping time is complete, remove the leaves by lifting the infuser or pouring through a fine mesh strainer into your cup or serving vessel to stop extraction and avoid bitterness.

Milk & Sweetener (optional)

  1. 4

    Warm milk (if using)

If you prefer milk, gently warm 2 oz milk in a small saucepan over low heat or in the microwave until hot but not boiling (about 20–30 seconds).

  2. 5

    Sweeten

Add 1 tsp simple syrup or sugar to the hot tea and stir until dissolved. Adjust sweetness to taste.

  3. 6

    Combine

Pour the warmed milk into the sweetened tea and stir once to combine. For a creamier texture, lightly froth the milk before adding.

Citrus Variation (optional)

  1. 7

For a lemon tea: add 1 tsp honey to the hot tea and stir until dissolved, then squeeze in juice from 1 lemon slice and drop the slice into the cup. Taste and adjust honey or lemon as desired.

Garnish (optional)

  1. 8

Garnish with a mint sprig or an additional lemon slice on the rim. Serve immediately while hot.
