Margarita Cocktail
Optional: For a Large Batch (6 servings)
Method
Prepare Glass
- 1
Salt the rim
Run a lime wedge around the rim of a chilled rocks or coupe glass to moisten. Pour coarse salt onto a small plate, then gently press and twist the glass rim into the salt to create an even salted rim. Set the glass aside.
Shake Cocktail
- 2
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 1 oz orange liqueur, and 0.5 oz agave syrup.
- 3
Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is frosty and well-chilled.
- 4
Strain and serve
Double-strain the cocktail through a fine mesh strainer into the prepared glass over fresh ice (if serving on the rocks) or without ice for a neat coupe presentation. This yields one classic margarita.
- 5
Garnish
Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim or a thin lime wheel floated on top.
Large Batch Method (Optional)
- 6
Combine in pitcher
In a pitcher, combine 12 oz blanco tequila, 6 oz fresh lime juice, 6 oz orange liqueur, and 3 oz agave syrup. Stir thoroughly to combine.
- 7
Chill and serve
Refrigerate the pitcher until cold or pour over a large bowl of ice when ready to serve. Stir again, then pour into salted glasses over fresh ice. Garnish each glass with a lime wedge.
Notes and Tips
- 8
Taste before serving and adjust sweetness if needed: add a little more agave syrup if too tart, or more lime if too sweet. Use freshly squeezed lime juice for best flavor. Substitute orange liqueur amount slightly up or down to taste. For a frozen Margarita, blend the cocktail ingredients with 2 cups of ice until smooth.
