Marinara Sauce Ingredients

Method

Marinara Sauce Directions

  1. 1

    Heat Olive Oil

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat until it shimmers.

  2. 2

    Sauté Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the hot oil and sauté for about 1 minute, or until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

  3. 3

    Add Tomatoes

Pour in the canned whole tomatoes (with their juice) into the saucepan. Use a wooden spoon to break up the tomatoes into smaller pieces.

  4. 4

    Season the Sauce

Stir in the dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.

  5. 5

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency.

  6. 6

    Add Fresh Basil (Optional)

If using, stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving for an added layer of flavor.

  7. 7

    Serve

Remove the sauce from heat and serve over your favorite pasta, or use it as a base for other dishes.
