Cocktail

  1. 1

    Build the drink

Add 0.5 oz Evan Williams, 0.5 oz Elijah Craig, and 1 oz Larceny into a mixing glass or old fashioned glass if stirring is done in serving glass.

  2. 2

    Add sweetener and bitters

Pour in 0.5 oz turbinado syrup, add 3 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters (if using). The turbinado syrup provides rich molasses notes that complement the three-bourbon blend.

  3. 3

    Stir and chill

If using a mixing glass: fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice and stir briskly for about 20–30 seconds (about 20 full stir strokes) until the drink is well chilled and slightly diluted. If building in the serving glass, add a large ice cube, cover and gently stir for 15–20 seconds to chill and dilute.

  4. 4

    Strain and serve

Strain the stirred mixture into an old fashioned glass over a single large ice cube or an ice ball.

  5. 5

    Garnish

Express the oils of one orange peel over the drink by holding it skin-side down over the glass and giving it a sharp fold to release the oils, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it into the glass as garnish.

  6. 6

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the layered bourbon blend and the turbinado's deep sweetness balanced by bitters and citrus oils.
