Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Shrimp

Rinse the peeled and deveined shrimp under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The batter should be thick but smooth.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the temperature by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil; it should sizzle immediately.

  2. 5

    Coat the Shrimp

Dip each shrimp into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.

  3. 6

    Fry the Shrimp

Carefully place the coated shrimp into the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  1. 7

    Plate the Dish

Arrange the fried shrimp on a serving plate. Serve with lemon wedges and tartar sauce on the side.
