Method
Hot Dog
- 1
Prepare
Remove the all-beef hot dogs from packaging and pat them dry with a paper towel. If buns are refrigerated, bring them to room temperature.
- 2
Simmer hot dogs
Pour 6 cups of water into a medium saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Do not boil vigorously. Once simmering, add the hot dogs. Reduce heat so the water is barely bubbling and heat the hot dogs for 4–6 minutes until warmed through (internal temperature around 140–150°F / 60–66°C).
- 3
Optional: Grill or pan-sear for texture
If you prefer light browning, remove the hot dogs from the simmering water and quickly sear them in a preheated skillet over medium-high heat for 30–60 seconds per side, or place them on a hot grill for 1–2 minutes, turning to get even color. This step is optional for a plain hot dog but adds a slight char.

Toast buns (optional)
If toasting buns, heat a skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon oil or butter. Split the buns and place them cut-side down in the skillet for 30–60 seconds until lightly golden. Alternatively, warm buns in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 3–5 minutes.
- 5
Assemble
Place one hot dog into each bun. If desired, season with a light pinch of coarse salt to taste. Serve immediately while hot.
