Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Tomatoes
Wash the tomatoes, remove the stems, and dice them into small pieces. Place them in a mixing bowl.
- 2
Mince the Garlic
Peel the garlic cloves and mince them finely. Add the minced garlic to the bowl with the diced tomatoes.
- 3
Chop the Basil
Rinse the fresh basil leaves, pat them dry, and chop them roughly. Add the chopped basil to the tomato mixture.
- 4
Season the Mixture
Add the extra virgin olive oil, salt, and black pepper to the tomato mixture. Stir to combine all the ingredients well.
Grilling the Bread
- 5
Slice the Bread
Slice the baguette or Italian bread into 1/2-inch thick pieces at a diagonal angle for more surface area.
- 6
Grill the Bread
Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat. Place the bread slices on the grill and grill for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
Assembling
- 7
Top the Bread
Once the bread slices are grilled, remove them from the heat and let them cool slightly. Spoon the tomato mixture generously over each slice of grilled bread.
- 8
Serve
Arrange the bruschetta on a serving platter and serve immediately, garnished with extra basil leaves if desired.
